Cross River State Water Board Limited -- The abandoned Cash Cow
Cross River State Water Board Limited -- The abandoned Cash Cow
Let me open this epistle by quoting the late legend Fela A kuti who said "water no get Enemy"... True to this words water really no get Enemy because every household indeed makes use of water for differing purposes. If water truly has no enemy then we can state that the good people of Cross River and water are kins..after all the name indicates the presence of water(Rivers) everywhere. Sadly tho, there seems to be a plan to create enmity between my good people and water...our taps have all run dry!!
The Cross River State water board limited which was incorporated in 1988 with the mandate to provide clean and affordable water to inhabitants of the state has for some inexplicable reason failed abysmally in this regards.
This epistle is not to point out the gross inefficiency that abounds in that body but rather awaken us to the revenue generator we have abandoned for unfathomable reasons.
The year 2001 -2005 witnessed the injection of millions of dollars to develop CRSWBL to the level it was before the sudden downturn of fortunes currently being witnessed.
CRSWBL at the Peak of its services saw almost every household connected to the state water supply grid and citizens willingly paid their water bills because they were getting value for the money paid, private boreholes were driven out of business as water "board water" was seen as being better. Today the reverse is the case, CRSWBL distributes water once in several months, leading to the proliferation of boreholes and a boom in borehole drilling business.
It is neither rocket science nor quantum physics to pump water from the abundant Rivers surrounding the state, treat it and distribute same using Elector mechanical pumps, the process is as straightforward as it can possibly be and in turn ensure a huge Return in investment for the government.. we therefore wonder why our taps have run dry and the government keeps singing about low internally generated revenue, there have been whispers in certain quarters that the neglect of CRSWBL is a deliberate plan by elements in government to paint the SWBL as being unproductive and then have it privatized, so they and their cronies can purchase it.

I encourage the government to live up to its responsibility in this
sector, it should weigh the cost of obsolescence and cost of procuring
new equipment against minimal operating cost it considers to be huge.
May our Taps Flow again!!
God Bless Cross River State and it's good Citizens.
