Safe Motherhood Week 2017: Commissioner Takes Advocacy to Leboku
Following the official flag off of this year's Saving Motherhood Week in Ogoja, the State Commissioner for Health Dr Inyang Asibong today took the campaign to this year's Yakkur new yam celebration popularly known as Leboku where she also talked about AYADECARE.

Asibong swayed the crowd by highlighting the benefits of the Safe
Motherhood Week initiative whilst making public the intentions of the
State Government to commence the immediate construction of the AYADECARE
referral hospital in the LGA. She also noted that the Saving
Motherhood activity was also being organised simultaneously in Akamkpa
LGA anchored by the DG of the State Primary Health Care Development
Agency, Dr Betta Edu and this would be replicated across all LGAs State.
The event was declared open by His Excellency, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, the Executive Governor of Cross River State who was represented by his Deputy, Prof Ivara Esu at the Ugep township stadium. Speaking during the opening, Prof Esu noted that the Yakkur nation has over the years remained steadfast in the uplifting of their traditional new yam celebration. His Excellency also assured that his administration will continue to push the culture and values of the State to the rest of the world and this is evident with the creation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes to the winners of the various competitions which includes the best harvester of the year, best male and female wrestlers, Mr and Mrs Leboku amongst others.
The event had in attendance the Obol Opon of the Yakkur Nation and his council members, the Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Exco, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the Cross River Women Emancipation Initiative (CROWEI); the pet project of the wife of the Governor, Dr Mrs Linda Ayade, and a host of other dignitaries.
