Premier League - Paper Round: CR7 offered contract extension, Chelsea still want Stones
Real Madrid seek to keep their man, Chelsea continue their efforts to sign Stones and it could be FA Cup or the sack for Martinez. It's Friday's Paper Roundemizyyhung2@gmail.com
After speculation his future at
Madrid was uncertain, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to be offered a two-year
contract extension worth £16.5 million a year, according to the Daily
Mail. The report says Madrid were considering selling Ronaldo, however
the idea was dismissed to keep the 31-year-old until at least 2018.
Instead, James Rodriguez and Isco could be sold in his place, as Madrid seek to turn around an indifferent season by making a range of squad changes.
Paper Round's view: Ronaldo
is still a wondrous footballer, however Madrid have to work out how
they're going to bankroll this squad reshuffle. It's clear that Zidane
wants to build his own team, as the sale of CR7 would have gone a long
way to funding it.
Chelsea renew interest in John Stones
Also in the Daily Mail, Chelsea will continue their bid to snare Everton's John Stones, despite his form slump cooling their interest over the last few months. Last summer, Stones was the subject of three bids - £20 million, £26 million and £30 million - which were all rejected by Everton. The report also says that claims Stones had handed in a formal transfer request last summer are untrue, and Chelsea's bid this time around could be as much as £37 million.
Everton's John Stones
Paper Round's view: Critics
are coming down too hard on Stones. He's still very young and his style
is risky, but modern football demands defenders should have the ability
to play out and take the game on. Chelsea's continued interest is proof
that many in world football know the finished product will be world
class.
