Veteran Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has teamed up with budding DMW act, Peruzzi, to share a new single titled “Amaka.” The song which narrates a story of disappointment by a love interest (Amaka) was produced by fast rising record producer, SperoachBeatz, who became popular for his work on Davido’s raving single “Assurance.” The track is accompanied by befitting visuals directed by Unlimited LA. This comes after 2baba shared “In Love and Ashes” soundtrack for a new television series “In Love and Ashes” which premiered in March. “In Love and Ashes” is a compelling 8-part drama series about loss, regret, forgiveness, hope and the human spirit’s incredible capacity for healing. Turkish Police raid opposition news website office in Istanbul

Turkish Police raided the office of a left-wing opposition news website on Thursday, breaking into the office and searching the newsroom, the group said. The news came amid reports of detentions for the supporters of an opposition presidential candidate. Sendika.org said that there were no journalists present at the time of the raid. The website said the raid was part of a legal investigation into its editor, Ali Ergin Demirhan. Mr Demirhan was briefly detained in April 2017 on charges of not recognising the result of a referendum to switch to an executive presidency system. He was separately detained in May this year for a news story titled “We can stop the dictatorship,’’ but later released. A big majority of mainstream media outlets in Turkey are considered to be close to Islamic Conservative President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Critical journalists often switch to online platforms; however, many such websites are blocked in Turkey. Meanwhile, local media reported th...

Pope Francis appointed 14 new cardinals in a ceremony at St Peter’s Square on Thursday, while warning the newly named dignitaries against internal wrangling within the church. “What does it profit us to gain the whole world if we are living in a stifling atmosphere of intrigues that dry up our hearts?’’ the pope said. “We might think of all those palace intrigues that take place, even in curial offices.’’ During his address, the pope also encouraged cardinals not to engage in a “quest of honours, jealousy, envy, intrigue, accommodation and compromise.’’ Among the new dignitaries are men from Iraq, Pakistan and Latin America who were previously relatively unknown, and Francis emphasised the need for the Catholic Church to reach out to the “margins’’ of the world. Among those appointed cardinals was Konrad Krajewski, a Polish archbishop known for his commitment to the poor, having set up showers for the homeless at the Vatican.
